The Gumyoshki mine, where copper ore was extracted for the nearby Polevsky plant since the 18th century, was famous for various miracles. And not without reason: the power here belonged to the Mistress of the Copper Mountain. She could take on different guises: she could turn into a lizard or a laughing girl, she could enter a house as a wanderer or a sovereign lady in her kingdom to receive guests. But in any guise, the Mistress liked to "make wisecracks on a man": she would give a difficult task - and the clerk would punish the worker severely; she would beckon a mysterious stone flower - and the master would go to her mountain forever. And in the mountain "the rooms are big... and their walls are different. They are green, or yellow with golden speckles. On which there are copper flowers again. There are blue ones too, azure. In a word, it's decorated to say the least". This beauty of the Ural land, the incredible richness of the Ural mountains with love and deep knowledge of the nature of stone was conveyed by the artist Vyacheslav Nazaruk, who has devoted several years to illustrating the most famous tales of Pavel Bazhov.
