Appearing on April 6, 1943 in Reynal-Hitchcock, The Little Prince spoke English, and only a short time later, thanks to the same publishers, spoke French.
So which was he American or French? "The Little Prince" was invented, drawn and written in the United States during 1942. The book was commissioned, it was to be a Christmas tale for American children and then French children, to comfort them a little and distract them, some from the looming threat of war, others from its real hardships. That's all true, but there's more to it than that. Antoine de Saint-Exupery flatly refused to learn English, and back in 1939 he wrote a wonderful book for children, which was going to be published in France in the tiography of Tours. But the bambardization of Tours in 1940 decided everything differently. But since 1946 - the date of the first French (and posthumous) edition of the Little Prince - "poetic fairy tale" was translated into 210 languages and sold many millions of copies in all countries. The collection includes: the first novel by de Saint-Exupery "Southern Post", published in 1929, and on which in 1936 Pierre Billaume made a movie, and this novel was the only large and finished cinematic work of Exupery. Also in the collection is The Planet of Men, published in 1939, which won the Grand Prize of the French Academy, and the best book of the year by the American Booksellers Association. But the cinematic version of the book, which Jean Renoir was eager to create, never materialized.
