Livonian War. Vilna against Moscow. 1558-1570

The Livonian War occupies a special place in the history of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and its uneasy relations with the Moscow state. The conflict over Livonia led to their direct clash and renewed struggle for Russian lands. The famous Belarusian historian A.N.Yanushkevich tried to look at the events from the "Lithuanian" point of view, putting in the center of the study the years 1558-1570, when the GDL confronted Moscow as a sovereign state. The armistice of 1570 put an end to the military struggle of Vilna, fixing cardinal internal (union with Poland, extinction of the Jagiellonian dynasty, kinglessness) and external changes. The author based his work mainly on the materials of the GDL, scrupulously analyzing the organization of the armed forces and defensive measures, mobilization and distribution of finances. He managed to create a holistic concept of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania's participation in the Livonian War.
