First published in 1927, Ludwig von Mises's Liberalism was a determined attempt to reclaim the liberal brand from the appropriators of "social liberalism" in Germany and "new liberalism" in England. The book was the final part (conclusions for economic policy) of the author's project to theoretically investigate the workability of all conceivable economic systems - socialism, interventionism, and free-market economics (capitalism).
Here, for the first time, the author brought the program of classical liberalism into a system: from a historically developed combination of heterogeneous elements he created an indivisible and inseparable whole in which all parts are mutually conditioned and arranged in a hierarchical order - taking into account the latest discoveries of economic theory and sociology (largely made by the author himself).
Until today, "Liberalism" remains the only systematic presentation of the principles of liberal organization of society and the state, the foundations of liberal economic and foreign policy. The author affirms private ownership of the means of production as the central principle of liberalism and demonstrates the close connection between the free market, international peace, civil rights, and economic prosperity.
