This publication is a collection of previously unpublished diaries, letters and memoirs of the participants of the Crimean War of 1853-1856 from the funds of the Russian State Military History Archive. It includes seven documents of personal origin (with annexes in the form of letters and other materials), in which military actions are reflected through the prism of individual perception of the authors.
The published diaries and memoirs, although depicting the same events, are diverse in content. This is explained by the wide range of the authors' positions, from generals to the most junior officers, as well as by the different circumstances and time of creation of the materials. The documents in the collection reflect the combat actions of infantry, cavalry, engineer-sapper troops, and the navy. In general, its chronology covers events from the first to the last day of the war. The central place is occupied by the heroic 349-day defense of Sevastopol in 1854-1855.
