Henry Kissinger is an American statesman, diplomat and international policy expert who served as the American President's National Security Advisor from 1969 to 1975 and as U.S. Secretary of State from 1973 to 1977. Winner of the 1973 Nobel Peace Prize, Kissinger is one of the world's most respected political scientists. During Dr. Kissinger's tenure in President Richard Nixon's administration, regular transcripts of telephone conversations were kept. Since 2001, the transcripts, stored in the U.S. National Archives, have been publicly available. These recordings and Henry Kissinger's comments on them convey the atmosphere in which important decisions were made and the nature of the relationships on which American policy was based. The book discusses two crises, the Arab-Israeli war in the Middle East in October 1973 and the final withdrawal from Vietnam in 1975.
