Henry Kissinger was an American statesman, diplomat and expert in international politics who served as national security adviser to the US president from 1969-1975 and as US Secretary of State from 1973 to 1977. Winner of the Nobel Peace Prize in 1973, Kissinger is one of the most respected political scientists in the world. During Dr. Kissinger's tenure in the administration of President Richard Nixon, transcripts of telephone conversations were regularly printed. Since 2001, the transcripts held by the US National Archives have been made available to the public. These notes and Henry Kissinger's comments on them convey the atmosphere in which important decisions were made and the nature of the relationship on which American politics was built. The book discusses two crises - the Arab-Israeli war in the Middle East in October 1973 and the final withdrawal from Vietnam in 1975.
