Conrad, or the Tin Can Child

In the not so distant past, babies were brought by storks, or found in cabbage, or, at the very least, bought in a store. But Austrian writer Christine Nöstlinger, who is famous for her unsurpassed ability to compose books with a non-trivial plot, went even further: she rolled a boy, who was made at a special factory, in a tin can.
One day the "insanely young and extremely beautiful" lady Berta Bertolotti, who likes to order indiscriminately everything that catches her eye in advertising forms, receives in another parcel... a live boy. His name is Conrad, and he calls Mrs. Bertolotti Mama. Before the arrival of the boy, the lady lived at her own pleasure, loved the belligerent makeup, apt words, free routine, sweet menu, rare meetings with a pharmacist friend. Children didn't fit into her happy life. But the boy turned out to be clever and unbelievably obedient. Not a child, but a treasure! And Mrs. Berta tries her best to be a good mother. Suddenly, the corporation that made the perfect son realizes that they sent the boy to the wrong mother. This is perhaps the most exciting part of the book - Conrad's rescue from his rightful factory owners, for which a totally win-win plan has been devised. By the end of the book, Conrad has become less perfect but more human. Undoubtedly, other characters have evolved for the better as well.
