Vladimir Mikhailov, a classic of Russian science fiction, began his literary career as a poet. And from poetry to science fiction is only a short step, as evidence abounds. His first foray into science fiction, the story "Special Necessity," came at an opportune time. Gagarin's flight, "Well, Let's Go!", the approach of space to humanity, the enthusiastic crowds in the streets… Science fiction, overnight, transformed from yesterday's literary Cinderella into a fairytale Firebird, and science fiction writers emerged from the confines of "second-rate literature" onto a broad highway. A whole galaxy of remarkable masters, from Yefremov and the Strugatsky brothers to Gansovsky, Savchenko, Gurevich, Larionova, Bulychev (the list goes on), enriched the science fiction genre. And one of the most prominent in this constellation was a star named Vladimir Mikhailov.
The Captain Uldemir cycle is among the writer's finest works.
"Heirs of Assart"
Returning to the planet Assart is, in general, a familiar task for Uldemir and his crew. But this time, everything must be different. Not a single shot fired. Only peaceful means must be used. Otherwise, it will be the last straw for the higher universal powers that decide the fate of the Universe.
"Perhaps there are ten there?"
The Magnificent Six, led by Captain Uldemir, are back in action. The goal of their difficult mission is the distant planet Almezot. The law of the Universe states: the more foolish and irrational humanity is, the greater the universal entropy, and this theoretical proposition is not far from reality. A planet whose population has lowered its spiritual standards to a minimum is truly doomed to destruction. The world on this planet ceases to emit Heat, and this part of the Universe turns into a region of Darkness and Cold. But if there are at least a dozen people left on this doomed planet who have retained their spirit, then all is not lost. But will there be any? That's the question.
