A distinctive feature from many other works on the stated subject is that the author focuses his attention on practically all aspects of life in Iranian society of the period under consideration. Referring to the issues of Iran's foreign policy, he shows that Reza Shah's line in the first two years of the war changed depending on the situation on its fronts. The main attention is paid to internal political developments in the country, the struggle for power between different groups of the national elite and the attempts of the leftist forces to enter this process. For the first time, Stalin's negotiations with Iranian Prime Minister Kavam os-Saltaneh and Princess Ashraf in 1946 are analyzed on the basis of transcripts. The work is based on a wide range of studies in Russian, Persian and English, with extensive use of Iranian press and materials from the Archive of Foreign Policy of the Russian Federation and the Russian Center for Storage and Study of Documents of Modern History. The book is written in good literary language and is of interest not only to Iranian Orientalists and students of Oriental Studies at universities, but also to specialists in the national history of World War II and all history buffs.
