The treatise "Either-or" ("Enten-eller", 1843) is one of the first truly independent works of the outstanding Danish philosopher, theologian and writer Søren Kierkegaard (1813-1855). It presents for the first time the famous dialectic of the "stages of human existence": aesthetic, ethical and religious. The essay, signed in the name of the fictitious "editor" Viktor Eremita, compositionally combines two parts - the literary and philosophical "notes" of a certain young "aesthetician" and the lengthy letters of his opponent, the ethically motivated judge Willem. They are also joined by the enigmatic Ultimatum, which is a fairly radical version of the Christian position. A complete Russian translation of the treatise was carried out by translators for the first time (the literary edition was first published by the publishing houses of the RKHGA and Amphora in 2011). The edition is supplemented with excerpts from Kierkegaard's letters and diaries, provided with detailed comments and notes. The book is addressed to philosophers, culturologists, theologians, historians of European culture and religious thought, as well as to all connoisseurs of philosophical thought, literature and arts.
