The Idiot poses a difficult task: to describe the “new prophet” and to imagine the reaction of those around him to the words and actions of such a seeker of truth. In his letters, Dostoevsky calls the main character of his novel, Myshkin, “Prince Christ.” In the Gospel of John, the Savior says that he is “not of this world,” so in Dostoevsky, Prince Myshkin is a man who does not fit well into the real world, a modern blessed one. In this regard, we can also recall Cervantes’ Don Quixote; in the eyes of those around him, this hero seems like an eccentric at best. At the same time, conversations with Myshkin surprisingly reveal hidden spiritual qualities in the characters of the novel. Mark Krysoboy from Bulgakov’s novel would probably have changed in the same way after a conversation with Yeshua Ha-Notsri. However, Myshkin is unable to change the vicious world around him, and, not accepting it, he ultimately goes mad.

The publication is decorated with illustrations by Olga Andreyevna Rusakova. They convey well the complex inner world of the novel's characters.
