Prince Christopher of Greece and Denmark was the youngest son of the first Greek king of the Glucksburg dynasty, George I, and the Russian-born Grand Duchess Olga Konstantinovna. Thus, Prince Christopher was related to many of the ruling houses of Europe and was a nephew to the King of Denmark, Queen Alexandra of Great Britain and the Russian Empress Maria Feodorovna. On the pages of his autobiography, which was published in 1938, just two years before the death of the prince, he describes the events of the late XIX - the first third of the XX century: The everyday life of the Greek royal family, the lavish visits to the Russian Empire, the royal family celebrations, the events of the Great War and the revolutions that followed, the Balkan wars and revolutions in Greece, exile, travels in Europe and in the United States, images of the many crowned personages, aristocrats, politicians, artists, diplomats met on his life's journey. In various circumstances, including tragic ones, Prince Christopher always retained incredible optimism and love for life. Being very close to the powers that be and knowing the life of monarchs from the inside, he twice refused the thrones offered to him, preferring a less formal life, free from the burden of responsibility for his country and people.
