The historical works included in this book are united by the figure of the Holy Roman Emperor Frederick I Barbarossa (1122 - 1190), who in the third quarter of the XII century led a fierce struggle with the Italian communes, opposed to the dictates of imperial power, and supported them by Pope Alexander III, in opposition to whom the emperor put forward several antipopes, but was forced to admit his defeat.
