The book "French Pages of the Chronicle of the Ussuri Region" represents the first attempt to collect, translate, and comment on diary entries, printed and handwritten memoirs, and reports of the discoverers of the Manchurian Sea coast for European naval authorities and geographical science in general. It is dedicated to three voyages by French sailors in the late 18th and mid-19th centuries.

First, the circumnavigation (1785-1788) of the frigates "Boussole" and "Astrolabe" under the overall command of Count de La Pérouse: his diary entries constitute the first documentary evidence of the northern coast of the Ussuri region.

Secondly, there's the circumnavigation (1850-1854) of the corvette "Restless" under the command of Captain 1st Rank Gaston Roquemorel. In August 1852, the corvette's crew conducted a topographic survey of the maritime area bordering Korea, resulting in the first detailed map of modern Posyet Bay. The reports and memoirs of the corvette's commander and sailors reveal previously unknown details of the life and ethnicity of the bay's inhabitants.

And finally, thirdly, there is the hydrographic expedition of the Anglo-French allied forces in August-September 1855 to the shores where the city of Vladivostok is now located. The flagship of the French East India Squadron, the frigate Virginia, with Rear Admiral Guérin on board, participated in a joint Anglo-French survey of the coast and the compilation of the first European maps, including those of Zolotoy Rog Bay, Amur Bay, and Ussuri Bay.

In addition to describing the travels of French navigators in the Far Eastern seas, the book tells of their predecessors—the Jesuit cartographers in the service of the Qing court in Beijing. Two land expeditions to Manchuria, undertaken by French missionaries at the request of the Emperor of the Qing Empire in 1709 and 1710, became the first attempt to describe the Ussuri region, later serving as the basis for sending French naval expeditions to this part of the world.
