More than a hundred years have passed since the Russian Civil War ended, but it continues to attract the attention of both historians and many readers. The history of the Civil War remains mired in mystery, and a number of topics, even the very framing of the issue, perplex readers. One such topic is the participation of Jews in the armed struggle against the Bolsheviks.
It is well known that Jews were the most persecuted people in autocratic Russia, but the February Revolution gave them equal rights. Jews, in military schools, where they constituted a significant percentage, desperately fought against the Red Guards and sailors, defending the Winter Palace, on the streets of Petrograd, Moscow, and Irkutsk, and as part of the Volunteer Army, participating in the legendary Ice March.
They continued the struggle against the Bolshevik dictatorship in 1919-1920. However, the bloody Jewish pogroms frequently carried out by opponents of the Bolsheviks and the numerous dismissals of Jewish officers from the White armies became obstacles to this struggle. Despite these obstacles, many of them continued to fight against the Bolsheviks.
This book is intended for historians and specialists, as well as for the general reader.
