"Dogra Magra" is an experimental novel by Japanese writer Yumeno Kyusaku, which blends detective fiction, science fiction, criticism of progress, ancient legends, and Buddhist sermons.

Even after the passage of time, "Dogra Magra" remains a mystery. The novel's unnamed protagonist is immersed in a terrifying world of fevered delirium, pseudoscientific research, and doom; he is tormented by millennia-old memories and yearns to solve a cursed puzzle that drives him mad—a solution that remains elusive. Edogawa Rampo called this book "an insane universe, described by a madman, not a writer."

Yumeno Kyusaku (1889-1936) was a vibrant and original representative of the "ero-guro-nansensu" movement—a popular interest in the piquant, the strange, and the disturbing that swept Japan during the interwar period. During his 47 years, Yumeno served as a soldier, a Zen monk, a Noh actor, a farmer, and a postmaster, and his extravagant, indefinable prose earned him the reputation of "the Japanese Lovecraft."

The only Western translation of "Dogra Magra" was published in France in 2003, and we proudly present to Russian-speaking readers a dark and captivating world, hidden from us by the spell of two incomprehensible words—"Dogra Magra." The book has been translated by Japanologist Anna Slashcheva.
