The Devil's Bride. Russian horror from the early 20th century, from the pages of old magazines.

This collection of domestic horror of the early twentieth century maximally represents the diversity of the genre on the pages of periodicals of that time. The compiler focused, of course, on the best examples. This does not mean that in the field of view fell only the classics or figures of the first row. We could not pass by the wonderful stories of A. I. Kuprin (his "folklore horror" "Silver Wolf" opens the collection) and V. Y. Brusov ("In the Mirror"), gloomy stories of F. K. Sologub ("The Red-Goose Guest") and A. S. Grin ("The Lion's Strike"). We could not miss one of the significant figures of the beginning of the century - M. Artsybashev ("Horror"), but we consciously did not include, for example, Leonid Andreev - his texts, including "scary", are regularly reprinted. But Russian "scary stories" of the first half of the twentieth century of a decent level were composed not only by them, but by those with whom the modern reader, alas, is completely unfamiliar. These are Nikolai Karpov, Sergei Solomin, Fyodor Zarin, Valentin Franchich and Ferdinand Ossendovsky, and many others who will be met on the pages of this book.
