The book is devoted to the history of the development of the Burgundian state in the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries, mainly the military aspects, when the power in Burgundy belonged to the dukes of the French royal Valois dynasty. The first volume deals with the period of Philip II the Brave and Jean the Fearless, and the second with Philip III the Good. Using archival documents and the widest source base, as well as recent specialized studies, the book reinterprets the major battles of the Hundred Years' War (Poitiers, Agincourt, Cravan, Verneuil, the siege of Orleans, the siege of Compiègne, etc.), the results of peace negotiations and other political actions. Much attention is paid to the dynastic conflict between the Armagnacs and the Bourguignons. A broad retrospective of military and political conflicts that shook both the external borders of Burgundy and its internal foundations is given - the Flemish War, the Crusade to Bulgaria, the wars with the Principality of Liege, the Dutch War between the "cods" and "hooks", the conquest of Luxembourg, the uprisings in Bruges and Ghent.... The biographies of many famous and almost forgotten heroes, generals, politicians, priests, valiant knights, ordinary soldiers and commoners, men and women, are traced. From their fates, as from the bricks, and was built a powerful Burgundian state, almost brought France to its knees.
