The monograph is the most complete in Russian historiography description of the design, construction and service of one of the most famous ships of the Russian Navy - armored cruiser "Rurik". The design of the ship began shortly before the conclusion of the Portsmouth Peace Treaty between Russia and Japan, the cruiser was built in Great Britain, at the factory of the firm "Vickers". Up to the entry into service of line ships-dreadnoughts of the type "Sevastopol" "Rurik" was the largest ship of the Russian Imperial Navy. It was deservedly considered the most beautiful warship of the fleet. After entering into service "Rurik" took part in the campaigns of the "Gardemarine detachment", then joined the Brigade of line ships of the Baltic Fleet and until the end of 1915 was the flagship of the fleet commander Admiral N. O. von Essen, and then joined the 1st cruiser brigade of the Baltic Fleet. During the First World War "Rurik" took part in most of the fleet's operations, including the battle off the island of Gotland. After the Brest Peace "Rurik" participated in the ice campaigns Revel - Helsingfors and Helsingfors - Kronstadt.
After scrapping in 1923 the 203-mm cruiser's turrets were handed over to the Coastal Defense and installed on the Kronstadt forts "Totleben" and "Obruchev". These guns actively participated in the Soviet-Finnish and Great Patriotic Wars, defense of Leningrad, operations to break through and liberate the city from the blockade. The monograph is illustrated with a large number of photographs and drawings.
