Pushkin began writing Boris Godunov in Mikhailovskoye. Life in this village was actually a continuation of his southern exile. Creativity and reading helped him gain freedom. Pushkin sat down to write The History of the Russian State. Karamzin's multi-volume work made a strong impression on the poet. He wanted to somehow creatively process, master, and reflect the newly acquired impressions and knowledge. As a result, the epic drama Boris Godunov was born. However, Pushkin did not adhere to the established canons of classical drama, but wrote a series of interconnected scenes that he managed to saturate with unusually emotional depth.
This collection of works by A. S. Pushkin includes the large-scale drama Boris Godunov, as well as four of the poet's most famous fairy tales: about the Golden Cockerel, about Tsar Saltan, about the dead princess, and about the fisherman and the fish.
The uniqueness of the book is that it is illustrated by the works of the magnificent Russian artist Boris Vasilyevich Zvorykin, whom art historians rightly consider one of the most original Russian painters, an amazing master of ornament and drawing and a magnificent book designer.
