Faddey Venediktovich Bulgarin (1789–1859) was one of the key figures in Russian journalism and literature in the second quarter of the 19th century. The book contains his official, business, and friendly correspondence, which provides an idea of the conditions in which the journalist and writer operated in Nicholas I’s Russia, of F. V. Bulgarin’s interactions with censors and authorities, as well as his relationships with colleagues, including the editorial kitchen of Severnaya Pchela, the most widely distributed and influential newspaper of the time, published by F. V. Bulgarin together with N. I. Grech. Among Bulgarin’s correspondents were such figures as A. A. Bestuzhev, K. F. Ryleyev, A. S. Pushkin, A. S. Griboyedov, N. A. Polevoy, M. P. Pogodin, M. N. Zagoskin, N. V. Kukolnik, N. I. Grech and many others, including historians, writers, journalists, censors and officials.
