In addition to the 20-volume library of Russian travels, the publication includes an outstanding monument of cartography - an academic atlas of the Russian Empire in 1745. At the beginning of the XVIII century, when the country entered the era of fundamental social and economic transformations, on the initiative of Emperor Peter I, urgent measures were taken to widely deploy geodetic and cartographic works. The study of a vast state is like an immense mosaic, the collection of which requires the participation of thousands of people and years of work. By 1745, great Russian figures created a unique historical monument - the Academic Atlas of Russia, consisting of 19 particular maps and a single General Map of the Russian Empire on a scale of 1: 8.4 million. The Academic Atlas of 1745 is certainly one of the outstanding monuments of Russian cartography.
