“Library of Russian Travels” tells about the noble cause of people who expanded and studied the territory of the Russian state, first came to the “unknown lands”, raised the flag of the state in remote corners of Eurasia, discovered and described exotic countries for Russians, paved their way through the waves of the World Ocean.
The library is dedicated to the discoverers and tells about the travelers of Russia, the Russian Empire and the Soviet Union. The chronological framework of the library covers events that took place in the late Middle Ages (approximately from the XIV-XV centuries), in the New and partly the Modern. Most of the volumes are devoted to the time that we can call – in relation to Russia – the era of classical travel and travelers: the second half of the XVIII – the first half of the XX century. The reader will be able to discover unknown corners of Russia and the world, together with the famous pioneers to see the fabulous edges "beyond the seas-oceans" and most importantly - to look at them through the eyes of travelers of the past. The unique content, exquisite design and high quality of printing make the library a great gift to true intellectuals and sophisticated bibliophiles. In addition to the 20-volume library of Russian travels, the publication includes an outstanding monument of cartography - an academic atlas of the Russian Empire in 1745. At the beginning of the XVIII century, when the country entered the era of fundamental social and economic transformations, on the initiative of Emperor Peter I, urgent measures were taken to widely deploy geodetic and cartographic works. The study of a vast state is like an immense mosaic, the collection of which requires the participation of thousands of people and years of work. By 1745, great Russian figures created a unique historical monument - the Academic Atlas of Russia, consisting of 19 particular maps and a single General Map of the Russian Empire on a scale of 1: 8.4 million. The Academic Atlas of 1745 is certainly one of the outstanding monuments of Russian cartography. The edition is printed with a reprint reproduction of stripes of the Atlas, issued in 1745 by the Geographical Department of the Imperial Academy of Sciences. Tom 1.
