There are many great and unique editions of the Bible in Russian history, from the classic Synodal translation to the many treatments of biblical stories.
The book you are holding in your hands also has a special history: it was compiled for the children of the imperial couple and dedicated to Olga, the eldest daughter of Emperor Nicholas II. However, there is no doubt that it was read by all members of Russia's first family.
"Bible for Children" (original title - "Sacred History for Children") compiled by a princess of the ancient Russian family of Gagarin, a famous children's writer Maria Alexandrovna Lvova and published by the publishing house Sytin in 1904 under the personal patronage of Her Imperial Majesty Empress Alexandra Feodorovna.
After the revolution, the book was banned and only many years later republished with the blessing of Patriarch Alexy II of Moscow and All Russia.
For our edition, we have created a new illustrative series of Russian and foreign classical paintings, perfectly illustrating the Sacred Stories of the Old and New Testament.
