The book attempts to comprehend many events of the last century and today through the prism of the Apocalypse. Current events create a sense of impending global catastrophe. Neither philosophers, nor historians or other intellectuals are able to give satisfactory answers to the questions that arise among people: where is mankind moving, does it have a future, is it possible to prevent (or at least postpone) the coming catastrophe? The author is convinced that exhaustive answers to these and similar questions can be found in the Holy Scriptures (Old and New Testaments) and especially in its last book, called the Revelation of St. John the Theologian, or the Apocalypse. Special attention is given to chapters 17 and 18 of the Revelation (the theme of the "Harlot of Babylon"). The book also deals with some literary works (primarily by F. M. Dostoevsky and Vladimir Soloviev) devoted to the theme of the Apocalypse.
