Tacitus (mid-50s - c. 120) was an ancient Roman historian, one of the most famous writers of antiquity. He had a brilliant political career in Rome, becoming a senator and then consul. Moving away from politics, Tacitus decided to write a history of the first decades of the Roman Empire, for which he scrupulously studied sources and tried to restore a complete picture of events. Thanks to his talent as a writer, deep analysis of historical material and revealing the psychology of actors, Tacitus is deservedly recognized as the greatest of Roman authors, and his main work "Annals" is considered the main work on the history of ancient Rome.
