The book is dedicated to the campaign of the 3rd Pernov Grenadier King Friedrich Wilhelm IV Regiment in the Asian theater of operations during the Russo-Turkish War of 1877–1878 and the fates of all the officers, officials, and enlisted men who served in the regiment during this period. During the Turkish campaign, the Pernovites upheld the grenadiers' military glory, displaying feats of boundless courage, bravery, and valor, earning them the St. George Silver Trumpet and banners bearing the inscription "For the Capture of Kars, November 6, 1877."
The main part of the book describes the regiment's combat actions on the Aladzha Heights, during the assault on the Kars fortress, and the heroic deeds of military medical officers in the fight against the typhus epidemic. The final chapter provides information on monuments dedicated to the heroes of Kars and the Russo-Turkish War, as well as on the celebrations of the anniversaries of the storming of the fortress. The appendices include excerpts from the service records of officers and military medical personnel, loss data, and information on awards.
The text is based on archival documents and documentary sources. The book is based on photographs of officers, insignia, captured weapons, and other items that belonged to the Pernovsky Regiment's regimental museum and were transferred to the State Historical Museum for safekeeping in 1918. This unique illustrative material is supplemented by other photographs, images of awards, diagrams, and drawings from the author's collection, private and museum collections, archival documents, and literature from the 19th and 20th centuries.
