Panteleimon was born in the 3rd century in Asia Minor, his father was a noble pagan and his mother a Christian, who raised her son in the faith until her early death. The father then gave his son to study medicine, in which the boy was quite successful. Having got acquainted with a Christian priest, the boy listened with interest to the stories about Christ, and after the miracle of the resurrection of a child by his own prayer to the Lord, Panteleimon sincerely believed and was baptized. After that he began to treat the poor gratuitously, helped Christians a lot, for which the Emperor Maximian turned against him and ordered the young man to be put to death. But no tortures and executions had no power over the Great Martyr, until the voice of the Lord Himself called him to the Kingdom of Heaven. Then many believed, even the executioners, who refused to carry out the execution. But Panteleimon asked himself to be beheaded, accepting martyrdom. For his help in healing illnesses, St. Panteleimon the Great Martyr and Healer is honored by believers of all Christian denominations and even by Muslims.
