The focus of attention of the creative team, which brought together employees of the Center for European Studies of the Institute of Ethnology and Anthropology. N. N. Miklukho Maclay RAS, Department of European Studies of the Museum of Anthropology and Ethnography. Peter the Great (Kunstkamera) of the Russian Academy of Sciences, as well as several invited scientists, there is a wide range of problems related to the food culture and food practices of Europeans. The study, carried out from the standpoint of social anthropology, is based on the field materials of the authors, archival and other sources. When studying the sociocultural role of European food, the focus is on the following issues: alimentary practices and the origins of tradition, food and identity, food system and sociality, cuisine and gender, food as a symbol and political tool, taste in cultures, national cuisine and authentic recipes, meals, etiquette and ritual. The book consists of five sections, divided into 16 chapters, differing in the subject matter of the studied plots, considered on the basis of the materials of a particular region, people or food phenomenon. The monograph is of interest to specialists and a wide range of readers.
