The young provincial Andre Sentorens comes to conquer Paris, where she falls in love with an employee of the Soviet embassy and marries him. Arriving in Moscow in 1930 with her husband and young son, she learns from her own experience the most unattractive aspects of the life of the “state of workers and peasants”: total deficit, poverty, lies of state propaganda, fear of the NKVD, mass repressions. Soon she herself will be destined to go around the circles of the Gulag hell. After serving two terms in Stalin's camps and returning to France in 1956, Sentorens published a book of memoirs "Seventeen Years in the Soviet Camps" in Paris, but it went unnoticed and today is a bibliographic rarity. The Russian edition of the book by Andre Sentorens, supplemented with documents and photographs from Russian and French archives and private collections, is an attempt to return an undeservedly forgotten name and draw readers' attention to the fate of an outstanding and courageous woman.
