The collection includes three works: the stories Notes from the Underground (1864), The Eternal Husband (1870) and the story Bobok (1873). "Notes from the Underground" is probably the most prophetic of all Dostoevsky's works. In it, the writer in many respects anticipated the ideas of the twentieth century, including the prose of Camus and Sartre, for the first time showed that the irrational, incomprehensible beginning can be more significant and more powerful than the rational one. “The Eternal Husband” is an amazing psychological portrait of a deceived husband, tormented by the most conflicting feelings: anger at his late wife, love for their common child and a desire to take out his anger on him, hatred for the offender who seduced his spouse, and good feelings for a person who once who was his friend. "Bobok" is an evil satire that makes fun of human vices in a grotesque form, which even death cannot eradicate.
