The new edition is the continuation of Wolfhall, one of the most famous British novels of the new century, "the best Booker winner in many years" (Scotsman). What's more, the second book also received Booker, a case unprecedented in the history of the award. And in March 2020, the final novel of the trilogy, Mirror and Light, was finally released.
Mantel "recreates the most important period of modern English history: the greatest English prose writer of modern times brings to life the most famous episodes from England's past," said Booker jury chairman Sir Peter Stothard. He is echoed by Margaret Atwood, also a two-time Booker laureate: Mantel “picks up where Woolfhall left off… literary ingenuity hasn't failed her; everything is just as accurate and precise in every word. So, Henry VIII Tudor begins to be weary of Anna Boleyn (the second of his, as you know, six wives), for the sake of marriage with whom he carried out a religious reformation, making England independent of the Pope. However, Anna never brought the long-awaited heir to the throne to the king - and now Henry begins to glance at one of Anna's ladies-in-waiting, Jane Seymour. But getting rid of Anna and the powerful Boleyn clan is not so easy - and Secretary of State Thomas Cromwell, a virtuoso master of undercover intrigues, will again help the king in this. It would seem that it is well known how this story will end - however, Mantel's novel is read more fascinating than any detective story ... In 2015, the BBC television channel filmed both books, starring Mark Rylance ("Another Boleyn Girl", ”,“ Dunkirk ”), Damian Lewis (“Romeo and Juliet”, “Once Upon a Time in ... Hollywood”), Claire Foy (“Postalization”, “Crown”, “Man in the Moon”). The series, known in Russian as Wolf Hall, was nominated for a Golden Globe in three categories (won in one), a BAFTA in eight (won in three), and an Emmy in eight.
