Yuri Levitansky, Soviet and Russian poet and translator, one of the finest lyricists of the 1922th century, was born in 1943 in Ukraine. After leaving school, he entered the then famous IFLI - the Moscow Institute of Philosophy, Literature and History. From the second year he volunteered for the front, participated in the defense of Moscow, since 1970 he was regularly published in front-line newspapers. In the post-war period, he published several collections of poetry, and was engaged in translations. Many of Levitansky's poems - "watercolors of emotional experiences" (M. Lukonin) - were set to music and became songs, including the famous "Dialogue at the New Year Tree", sounded in the film "Moscow Does Not Believe in Tears". The turning point in the poet's work was the book of poems "Cinema" (1976), included in this edition, which brought the author great fame. Like the subsequent collections Day So-and-so (1981) and Letters to Katerina, or a Walk with Faust (1991), Cinematograph was written as a single work built according to the laws of musical composition. The present edition is completed by works from the book "White Poems" (XNUMX), created in the last years of his life and recognized as one of the pinnacles of Yuri Levitansky's work.
