The book deals with the phenomenon of armed resistance of a part of the population against the establishment of a post-war system in the Balkan countries. The work is preceded by an extensive chapter on the events of the Second World War in the Balkans, which served as a prologue to subsequent events. During these years, in Yugoslavia, Romania, Albania and Bulgaria, the rebels were anti-communists, and in Greece the guerrilla war was waged by the local Communist Party. An important role in strengthening the insurgency was played by foreign intervention (the West in the pro-Soviet territories and the USSR and the allies in Greece). The tactics of the rebels and the methods of anti-partisan actions of the authorities are especially important for studying the history of guerrilla tactics. The book was written on the basis of archival sources and memoirs of participants in the events.
