Clifford Donald Simak is one of the "godchildren" of the famous John Campbell, editor of Astounding Science Fiction, where many of the stars of the "golden age of science fiction" lit up. Early in his literary career, Simak wrote "hard" sci-fi, adventure, and westerns, but then pushed the boundaries of the sci-fi genre and created his own style, which critics called soft, humanistic, and even pastoral, comparing Simak's prose to that of Ray Bradbury. World fame brought him a novel in short stories "The City" (two short stories from it were included in this collection). For fifty-five years, Simak wrote about thirty novels and more than one hundred and twenty novels and short stories. He was awarded the Hugo, Nebula, Locus and other awards. Awarded the title of "Grandmaster of the Nebula Award". This book is the second volume of the complete works of the Master in the small genre. Some of the works included in the collection are translated for the first time, and some are published in a new translation.
