Sergei Alexandrovich Nilus (1862-1929) - Russian thinker, spiritual writer and public figure. According to the memoirs of a contemporary, “Nilus was a brilliant man, a talented musician, artist and writer. He spoke unusually interestingly, his views were deep and original. His faith was unshakable." Nilus was born into a poor landowner's family in Moscow. After graduating from the gymnasium and the university, he served as an official, after retiring he managed in the village. It was here that he aspired to try his hand at spiritual creativity, which was strengthened and confirmed after meeting with the holy righteous John of Kronstadt. The main theme of Nilus's work was the apocalyptic events of the coming time. He called his first large book, published in 1903, Great in Small. It reveals the spiritual biography and history of Nilus's path to God, includes the most interesting material related to the life of St. Seraphim of Sarov, as well as a number of essays that express the author's forebodings about terrible events approaching Russia. Sergei Nilus is convinced that the will of God is revealed to people in seemingly insignificant circumstances of their lives.
