Having survived the self-pogrom of the 1990s, our country entered the era of information wars that continue to this day. Prose writer, publicist, playwright and public figure Yuri Polyakov is one of the few who honestly writes and speaks about our time. It is no coincidence that the third collection, which includes his interviews from 2014 to 2020, is called At Risk. It is precisely in the risk zone that Russian society and the institution of statehood itself are now at risk. The author is sure that if the authorities do not attend to the elimination of the monstrous social imbalance, then the crisis is inevitable. A blatant injustice, when some have “empty cabbage soup, while others have small pearls,” leads to an explosion and a repetition of the tragedy of the 1990s. The interview raises a lot of the most pressing problems: the “Russian question”, the alienation of the “migratory elite” from the people, Ukrainian fascism, the “fifth column” in power, the dehumanization of the theater, literature, cinema, motherland travel and the lies of the media ... A special place is occupied by the author’s fundamental point of view on amendments to the Constitution and "transit of power". Of course, Yuri Polyakov's journalism causes a lot of controversy, but in his books he is always sincere. His views, assessments, forecasts are refined, developed, sometimes revised, but never depend on the conjuncture of the “liberal gendarmerie” and the Kremlin drafts. Defending patriotism and social justice, Polyakov always talks about what worries him, and, as it turns out, deeply worries our entire society.
