Anna Andreevna Akhmatova (1889–1966) is a poet whose work is unconditionally ranked among the golden fund of Russian literature. “Akhmatova's poetry for new people is not what it is for us. We were perplexed, surprised, admired, argued and, finally, became proud. They don't need our admiration. They are not surprised, because they came later,” wrote philologist B.M. Eichenbaum.
This edition contains poems from the books “Evening”, “Rosary”, “White Flock”, “Plantain”, “Anno Domini”, “Reed”, published before 1940, as well as poems of this period that were not included in the books. The texts are verified by autographs kept in state archives and private collections, as well as by the first publications in the periodical press. The features of the author's spelling, punctuation of the originals are preserved, the type of recording of works is observed, if possible. The volume is supplied with a preface and notes prepared by N.I. Kraineva.
