Academician Alexander Evgenievich Fersman (1883-1945) - the famous Russian naturalist, mineralogist, one of the founders of geochemistry, full member and vice-president of the Academy of Sciences, "poet of stone", according to Alexei Tolstoy, is on a par with the most prominent representatives of the world science. The book "Three years beyond the Arctic Circle" is devoted to the study of the Kola Peninsula and the Khibiny mountain range. These three years fell on 1920-1922, the time when the country was barely beginning to cope with the consequences of the Civil War. “Fire the weary youth” was Fersman’s goal when preparing this book for publication. For the scientist himself, the Khibiny became a special place; he devoted almost two decades of his life to their research. The book "Memories of a Stone", as A.E. Fersman himself wrote, is "the story of a lifetime, the story of a kind of love for nature, the search for clues to natural secrets for almost fifty years." In short essays, the author tells about the search for and the origin of various minerals - from those mined in thousands of tons to historical stones, such as the famous Shah diamond. The title of the third book included in this edition, Journeys for the Stone, speaks for itself. Years spent on numerous expeditions and thousands of kilometers traveled in search of minerals and precious stones fit into these stories. A.E. Fersman tells about research and campaigns, starting from his youth and ending with the time when he was already a venerable academician and a world-famous mineralogist.
