The work brought to the attention of readers is a brief strategic outline of the activities of the Soviet political and military leadership in the field of military planning during the decisive period of the formation of the USSR as a leading world power. Starting from the campaign on the Vistula in 1920 - through the analysis of operational plans for the use of the Red Army in the interwar period, campaign plans during the Great Patriotic War - and to the fundamental rethinking by the General Staff of the experience of war at the turn of the 1950s-1960s, the authors, based on using a vast corpus of documents from the Red Army General Staff and Stalin's personal archive, they seek to reconstruct the strategic logic of the Soviet High Command. This is the first time such a study has been undertaken in domestic and foreign literature.
