The publication offered to the attention of readers is the first weapons reference book in domestic practice, in which scientific and documentary substantiation of the existing combat models of edged weapons, which were in service with the Russian guard, army and navy in the period 1700-1881, is given. Also, for the first time in the reference book, scientific attribution of already known and newly identified weapons was carried out. A wide range of weapons presented on the pages of the guide represents the richest funds of domestic and foreign museums: the State Hermitage, VIMAIViVS, State Historical Museum, the Tula State Museum of Weapons, the Moscow Kremlin Museums and the Museum of the Polish Army. To identify rare and little-known weapons, the authors had to turn to the funds of regional Russian museums located in Vladimir, Dmitrov, Izhevsk, Krasnoyarsk, Kostroma, Omsk, Perm and Chita. A significant contribution to the creation of a complete selection of weapons was made by private domestic and foreign collectors. To compile the documentary basis of the reference book, in addition to the already published materials, the authors used unpublished sources from the funds of the leading national specialized archives: the Russian State Military Historical Archive; Russian State Archive of the Navy; Russian State Historical Archive; Russian State Archive of Ancient Acts; Archive of VIMAIViVS and the State Archive of the Tula Region.
