Peak K2, or Chogori, due to the extreme difficulty of climbing, was called "Wild Mountain". Its height is 8611 meters - this is the northernmost eight-thousander in the world and the third peak after Annapurna and Nanga Parbat in terms of mortality. In August 2008, 11 climbers from several expeditions died on the ascent - there were no such number of victims in one season in the entire history of the mountain. The authors of the book conducted an unprecedented study, took more than 200 interviews and were able to recreate the real story of the tragedy, also thanks to the frank stories of Pakistani and Nepalese high-altitude porters. The book is complemented by biographies of famous climbers, stories of other attempts to climb K2, and the mythology of the region.
