Nikolai Stepanovich Gumilyov (1886-1921) is one of the central figures of the Silver Age, the founder of the school of acmeism in Russian poetry, the author of nine poetry collections, the founder of various poetic associations (including the famous Poets' Guild), a traveler and a warrior poet. Gumilyov's bright life was tragically cut short on August 26, 1921: he was arrested as a participant in an anti-Soviet conspiracy and shot on trumped-up charges.
This edition reproduces all nine books published during Gumilyov's lifetime: from the early romantic collections "The Way of the Conquistadors" and "Romantic Flowers" to the latest - "Tent" and "Pillar of Fire", representing the mature poet as the author of the finest love and philosophical lyrics. The unusual notes offered to the reader in this book are a kind of anthology composed of contemporaries' reviews (reviews and letters) on the poet's books and individual publications of his poems. The publication is provided with a literary article and an alphabetical index of works. The illustrations were made by the famous St. Petersburg artist Sergey Rusakov especially for the Vita Nova publishing house.
