"Stories collected in Uji" ("Uji Shui Monogatari") - a work of medieval Japanese literature, belongs to the genre of setsuwa ("literature of oral stories"), which at one time was very popular. The date of the composition of the monument is not entirely clear - it has come down to us in later lists (the only complete list dates from 1695). It is assumed that the original text was put on paper at the beginning of the 197th century. "Stories collected in Uji" consists of XNUMX stories in fifteen scrolls: there are legends and parables, lives and traditions, anecdotes and fairy tales. Many plots from "Uji Shui Monogatari" formed the basis of the works of later Japanese writers, such as, for example, the novels "The Nose" and "Sweet Potato Porridge" by Akutagawa Ryunosuke.
The book is provided with detailed comments and illustrations.
