More than a hundred years have passed since the outbreak of the First World War, which contemporaries dubbed the Great. A huge amount of literature devoted to this war has been published in the world, and it still continues to excite the minds of people from different countries. In Soviet Russia, this war was forgotten. It was simply deleted from the historical process, as if it did not exist at all. A few pages in history books and popular brochures - that's all that was dedicated to this event, which changed the modern world beyond recognition. The increased interest of readers and historians in Russia in recent years in the problems of the First World War indicates that this topic is beginning to come out of oblivion in our country, gradually taking its rightful place. However, until now, none of the domestic authors have investigated the issues of the origin of the First World War, i.e. did not seriously consider the causes of its occurrence, did not study the historical path that the countries that unleashed the world war had traveled before crossing arms. This book is the first and so far the only comprehensive study of the causes of the First World War in Russian-language historiography. It is written on the basis of a large number of sources and studies introduced into scientific circulation for the first time. There is not a word about the war itself and the fighting in the book. It tells about how politicians and diplomats of European states brought the matter to a general fire. A distinctive feature of the book is that the author explored in historical retrospect the path to war of each of the great European states. In the course of the story, the reader has images of many rulers, politicians and diplomats, one way or another involved in the outbreak of the world war. The names and portraits of some of them are little known to the Russian reader. All this adds to the attractiveness of the book offered to the attention of readers. This publication is aimed both at specialist historians and at the general reader who is interested in issues of world and national history little studied in our country.
