“The Praise of Stupidity” can be called “an international super-bestseller of the Renaissance”, because immediately after the first publication in Paris in 1511, it went through 7 reprints in France alone, and in total was reprinted in different countries during the author’s lifetime more than 40 times. Erasmus himself, who considered his satire, brilliant in form and content, to be nothing more than an amusing literary trifle, was quite surprised by such a resounding success. In the work constructed in the form of a monologue, the main character is Moriya (Stupidity), revealing her secrets to the reader, listing her merits, praising herself and, most importantly, mocking many "wise men". In discussions about its purpose, it touches on issues of art, culture, social structure, and many others.
