The collection "Stop in the Desert" was compiled by the author in Russia. It includes poems of the 1960s (“Christmas Romance”, “Great Elegy to John Donne”, “A. A. Akhmatova”, “God does not live in the corners in the village”, the poem “Gorbunov and Gorchakov”, and other works) . Initially, in 1970, it was published by the Chekhov Publishing House, and in 1988, the Ardis Publishing House issued a reprint.
First published in 1977, The End of a Beautiful Era is a collection of poems from 1964–1971 written by Brodsky before leaving the Soviet Union. Among them are such well-known ones as “Speech about spilled milk”, “Dedicated to Yalta”, “Conversation with a celestial”, “Lithuanian Divertissement” and others.
