The Classic Drawing Library series includes rare old editions of both educational and bibliographical value. This edition is also a compilation of the manuscripts of the great Italian painter and architect, inventor and scientist, musician and sculptor Leonardo da Vinci. One of the largest representatives of the art of the High Renaissance, this brilliant master devoted only a small part of his time to painting and worked rather slowly. Therefore, the artistic heritage is quantitatively small, and a number of his works have been lost or badly damaged. As an addition to a dozen mysterious and beautiful works, Leonardo left us a considerable number of sketches, notes and notes that not only surprised and delighted his contemporaries, but also delight the modern reader. These are about four thousand sheets, which have the vague name "Leonardo's Notebooks" and, in fact, represent several different collections of his manuscripts. Covering a wide range of topics, from fine art theory to the process of melting and casting metals, from anatomical studies to details of aircraft and weaving machines, from complex reflections on force and movement, to amazing visionary thoughts about celestial bodies, they give us almost unlimited access to rich imagination of the great master.
