In 2021, the world celebrates the 160th anniversary of the birth of Fridtjof Nansen and the 100th anniversary of his humanitarian mission - as the High Commissioner of the League of Nations, he organized international assistance to the starving people of the Volga region. By these dates, the Paulsen publishing house timed the reprint of another book by the outstanding polar explorer, an honorary member of the Russian Geographical Society, awarded the Konstantinovsky Medal of the Russian Geographical Society (1897), about his expedition to Greenland in 1888–1889. Nansen brilliantly coped with the task: starting on east coast, two months later he reached Gotthob on the western coast of the island, where he lived for six months among the Eskimos, studying their customs and traditions - this is the subject of the second part of the book, "The Life of the Eskimos."
