The study is devoted to a number of problems of the pre-October period of Russian history, which still remain open: versions about the passage of the Leninist group of political emigrants through the territory of Germany as a result of a political agreement with the German government, about Lenin as an alleged “German agent”, the participation of the Parvus company and Olof Aschberg’s bank in “ “transferring” German money for the Bolsheviks to the banks of Russia, etc. This publication documents the involvement of French intelligence, Albert Thomas in the creation of these versions. The impact of pacifist, internationalist sentiments, the defeatist ideas of the Bolsheviks on the morale of the armies caused serious concern both for the Provisional Government and for Russia's allies in the First World War. The lack of convincing evidence in the "conspiracy" of the Bolsheviks with the Germans was replaced by unfounded assumptions, the use of denunciations, false evidence, which subsequently gave rise to the myth of Lenin as a "German spy", about a "sealed wagon" in which he returned to Russia through the territory of Germany. Today, when Bolshevik ideas have been seriously criticized and revised, this myth continues to live as an axiom that does not require proof. The source base is the documents from the funds of the French and Russian archives, introduced into scientific circulation for the first time, which are directly related to the events between the two coups. The documents are commented in detail, which makes it possible to trace the logical connection between individual historical evidence. The collection makes it possible to eliminate the distortion of many, becoming obvious, facts that are often found in the books of foreign authors translated into Russian in recent years, and can serve as a basis for further objective, unbiased research on this topic.
