Little House on the Prairie is the second book in Laura Ingles Wilder's famous autobiographical epic. Laura and her sisters leave the forests of Wisconsin with their parents and begin to settle in Kansas, on the land of wild Indian tribes. The Wilders have to endure a dangerous crossing over a stormy river, a fire on the prairie and a terrible fever that almost killed the whole family. And the neighborhood with the Indians becomes more and more dangerous over time: they can suddenly enter the house in the absence of dad, scare mom and girls and take away all the food and animal skins that dad got on the hunt. But dad, as in the first book, is still the main person in the family, a jack of all trades (build a house, dig a well, and play the violin), dearly loving his daughters and faithful wife. He re-equips the life of the family from scratch. And dad is very brave: he comes out victorious in the confrontation with the cougar. Mom, with amazing patience and calmness, endures all the hardships of life, whether it be a long road in a van or an unsettled life in a new place. On the way, she heats an iron on a fire and irons her daughters' dresses on the seat of the van, and in the house freshly built by her father, she puts a porcelain shepherdess on the mantelpiece - a symbol of family well-being and comfort. Thanks to the amazing artistic memory of the writer, her attention to people and things, the book is read easily, with keen interest, and the reader of 10-12 years old has a natural desire to compare his own childhood with that of Laura.
